Playstation 1 Controller
Created entirely with Blender and only free tools, textures, or plug-ins(as if everything I make)
I did this pretty quickly in one evening, maybe around 3-hours spent(?). It was trickier than it seems to keep the mesh all as one form for the grey plastic body. I wanted to add additional levels of realism in this by actually insetting all the buttons into the form, you'll see holes cut out and the buttons placed inside, most noticeable around the D-pad (as is also true on the real controller). This was a genuine realism attempt, and I focused on the core pieces and did the most amount of texturing and animating as I could do in that single evening. |
My favourite part of modelling is always the texturing step - moreso the grunge and dirt-ifying, I love visual story-telling, and with a 3D object, which in its raw and purest form, is always unnaturally clean, and so adding in things such as finger print marks and dents/tooth marks in the normal and glossy maps here help to further embed this as a real object and tell a story of how it was used - as if it was real. I love to consider where rust may more often occur, where metals patina, and where signs of wear and use can be shown.
A really nostalgic object for me, and a good test of my ability to replicate realism when I'd not been able to put this level of detail in my usual work. |
